Description

The Tibor Varga International Violin Competition is open to violinists of all nationalities from 15 to 32 years of age (born between the 1st January 1978 and the 31st December 1995). Its purpose is

  • to help discover new talent,
  • to enrich the musical experience and competence of the participants,
  • to encourage and support prize-winners in their future careers.

The Jury, comprising eminent violin experts (performers and teachers) and distinguished personalities in the world of music, will endeavour to discern the essential musical values in the interpretations of each candidate.

The programme as well as the administration of the Competition, established by its founder Tibor Varga, correspond perfectly to the regulations of the World Federation of International Music Competitions (WFICM). The Competition's conception reflects the eminent artistic and pedagogic wisdom of the founder, who was repeatedly invited as a member or president of juries at the most important competitions for violin and chamber music: ARD Munich (for the first time in 1952), Tchaïkovsky in Moscow, Paganini in Genoa, Geneva Competition, Competition of Indianapolis, Queen Elisabeth in Brussels, Carl Nielsen in Odense, Marguerite Long- Jacques Thibaud in Paris, Georges Enescu in Bucarest, Competition of Evian, Schubert and the Music of Modernity in Graz, etc.

All rounds are open to the public. There is no pre-selection (on the basis of audio or video recordings) in closed session.

The full programme consists of three public performances which will be recorded on CD. Every competitor will receive a copy of his own performances. On the basis of the recordings, the performer can analyse his interpretations, discuss them with jury members and eventually benefit from such study in his artistic development.
