Regulation
Programme
The full programme consists of three public performances
which will be recorded on a CD.
Competitors must prepare the
entire works in question : that is, all of the movements,
except for those in the first round, when they shall perform,
without repeats, the movements of works as described below.
Sonatas for violin and piano may be performed from the
music, but all other works must be performed from memory,
including the Sonata for solo violin of Bartók (1st
movement).
The concerto of Mozart chosen for the
first round must be known in its totality because the
musician might have to play it during the gala concert.
The following works are REQUIRED, with no exception.
First round
1. J.S. Bach :
2. W.A. Mozart (with piano) : The first movement
width cadenza of one of the following concerto: KV 216 G-Major, KV 218 D-Major, KV 219 A-Major.
3. N. Paganini : A capriccio of the candidate’s
choice, without accompaniment.
Second round
4. J. Brahms: One complete sonata for violin and
piano: G-Major, A-Major or D-Minor.
5.
One of the following pieces, personal choice of the
candidate: Tzigane by Ravel, Rondo Capriccioso by
Saint-Saens, or Polonaise by Wieniawsky
(A-Major).
6.
Béla Bartók: the first movement (Ciaccona) of the
Sonata for solo-violin.
Final (with orchestra)
7. One complete concerto (with orchestra) of the
following works:
Brahms, Mendelssohn in E-Minor, Sibelius, Tchaďkovski.
Decisions of the
Jury
The Jury can change the examination programme at
any time, taking into account the works announced by each
competitor. The Jury's decision is final.
Prize
There are 3 prizes and the total amount
will be approximately
CHF 30,000.
There are equally prizes for the imposed piece and the
public’s choice
Competitors reaching the second eliminatory round but not
the final will receive a certificate of participation.
Inscription
The final deadline for receipt of the application is June
2, 2010. The application must contain:

a receipt
proving the payment of enrolment fee of CHF 130.-
This non-refundable entrance fee should be paid by bank
transfer to the account of Crédit Suisse GROUP, Sion.
The works selected on the application form are final and
can under no circumstances be changed.
Procedure
The Competitors will have official accompanists
(pianists) at their
disposal free of charge. Competitors may also bring their
own accompanists (own pianists) at their own expense. There will be only
one rehearsal with an accompanist
(pianist) for each competitor :
- 30
minutes before the first round
- 90
minutes before the second round
The final round will take place with orchestra.
The order of performance will be decided by a drawing before
the beginning of the Competition, in the presence of the
members of the Jury, the accompanists and the Competition
management. The order of the performance will remain the
same until the end of the Competition. All candidates
must be present for the drawing.
Awarding of prizes
and official ceremonies
At the end of each round those competitors who have been
eliminated will receive a copy of the recording of their
performance. This will be given to them in the presence of
the Jury, the original CD remaining in the Competition's
archives.
Prizes will be given to the winners at an official ceremony.
All prize-winners are asked to attend, to receive their
prize personally. If they are not present, prizes will be
put into the Competition Fund. Prize-winners are also
required to give benevolent performances the ceremony as
well as in concerts following the final round, to be
organized by the Competition management. All candidates are
asked to be available to the media for the duration of the
Competition.
Recorded broadcasting
The organizers of the Competition have the unrestricted
right to broadcast, televise and publish the recordings made
during the Competition performances, the prize-giving
ceremony, the performances of official concerts, and the
interviews with the candidates, without remuneration either
to competitors or to prize-winners.
Welcoming
The participants are asked to register at the Competition
Office (Bureau du Concours International de Violon Tibor
Varga) upon arrival in Martigny, where, after establishing
their identity, they will be given a participation card
admitting them to the first session.
Accomodation
Accommodation, food and travel expenses are at the charge of
the participants. Nevertheless, the management of the
Competition will help finding accommodation for the
candidates and their
pianist (please return the
enclosed
reservation sheet
(pdf - 20Ko) with your registration).
Non-competitors must organize their own accommodation.

Homestay
familly
Homestay is a great way to learn about Swiss culture during
your stay in Martigny. Our homestay program offers you the
chance to live with friendly people. Your stay will only
cost CHF 30.-/night with breakfast.
N.B. :
For Homestay family, we can not guarantee single room.
Moreover we might not have enough families for everybody.
Acceptance of the
regulations
By signing the application form, candidates agree to the
general conditions. The original French wording is the
unique authority.

The enrolment fee (CHF 130.--)
is to be paid in Swiss

The participant who inscribes but is unable to attend is
asked to inform the Competition office immediately.
In case of cancellation after the 6 June 2010, no amount will be refunded.
Having studied the conditions, the signatory accepts the
stipulations and regulations of the Competition.
